Academic & Program Excellence
We are proud to offer a comprehensive and challenging curriculum designed to prepare students for college, career, and life readiness.
- National Recognition: Sullivan Elementary was honored as a 2022 National Blue Ribbon School, a testament to its academic excellence.
- Music Education: SDOJ has been recognized as one of the "Best Communities for Music Education" eight times, celebrating our robust music programs.
- Advanced Placement (AP) Courses: We offer 18 AP courses, providing rigorous academic opportunities for high school students.
- College & Career Readiness:
- Our district implements AVID Programs at both the Middle School and High School, supporting students in developing college readiness skills.
- Jefferson High School graduates are well-prepared for postsecondary education or employment, including NATEF Certification for automotive industry interests, with an ASE Certified Automotive program.
- Seal of Biliteracy: The School District of Jefferson is proud to be one of the few schools authorized by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to implement the Wisconsin Seal of Biliteracy program. This prestigious credential recognizes graduating high school students who have attained a high level of proficiency in English and one or more additional languages, providing a valuable asset for college and career opportunities.
- Competitive Success: Our students consistently achieve high honors in various competitions:
- Middle School students have won State Awards in Stock Market Games.
- Students have attained State and National Qualifier status in SkillsUSA, HOSA, FBLA, Forensics, WSMA, WHSFA, and Battle of the Books.
- WIAA State Qualifiers in multiple sports demonstrate our athletic excellence.
- Talent & Challenge Programs: We provide a dedicated Advanced Learner program for exceptionally talented students.
- Staff Development: New teachers benefit from mentorship, and ongoing staff development activities promote professional growth and curriculum alignment.

Student Achievement & Growth Indicators
We set ambitious targets for student success and are proud of our progress in key areas:
- Standardized Testing Benchmarks: Our Grade 11 students have met or exceeded the ACT state average score, and Grades 9 & 10 students have met or exceeded the PreACT Secure state average score, indicating strong academic preparedness for postsecondary education.
- High Attendance Rates: We strive for a 90% attendance rate or higher for all students, recognizing its direct link to academic success and future career readiness.
- Community Service: Students are encouraged to participate in community service, with a target of 10 or more hours during their high school career, fostering real-world experiences and a sense of pride.
- Personal Finance Literacy: Our students are achieving proficiency in personal finance, essential for navigating financial well-being.
- World Language Proficiency: Many students complete two or more years of world language courses, developing competence to communicate effectively across cultures.
- Co-curricular Participation: High rates of student involvement in co-curricular activities promote engagement, achievement, a sense of belonging, and future college success.
- Music Participation: Active participation in band and/or choir helps develop critical thinking, creativity, teamwork, and communication skills.
- Positive Behavior & Citizenship: Our targets for minimal discipline referrals and strong citizenship grades reflect students' ability to regulate emotions, display responsibility, and contribute positively.
Community & School Environment
SDOJ prides itself on fostering a supportive and engaging environment for all.
- Small District Atmosphere: Despite covering 94 square miles and serving nearly 2,000 students across five schools (three elementary, one middle, one high school), SDOJ maintains a "small district atmosphere" that nurtures individual student growth.
- Strong Community Support: The district benefits from strong support from parents and the wider community, as evidenced by successful referendums and various collaborative initiatives.
- Community Engagement & Service: SDOJ actively participates in and leads community service and outreach initiatives such as "Soaring to Service," "Christmas Neighbors," blood drives, and Thanksgiving Dinner events.
- Playworks Partnership: East Elementary and Jefferson Middle School are proud Playworks Partners, enhancing recess and play experiences to foster social-emotional learning and positive relationships.
- Inclusive Environment: We are committed to offering all students equal opportunities, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, creed, pregnancy, marital status, parental status, or physical, mental, emotional, or learning disability. Our school actively supports students from diverse backgrounds.
- Green & Healthy Schools: Our elementary and high schools have received "Green and Healthy Schools Awards," demonstrating our commitment to environmental stewardship.
- Modern Facilities: A referendum passed in 2022 enables significant building updates, including renovations and expansions of agriculture and technical education classrooms and labs, ensuring modern learning environments for our students.
